GPS 396 Mount for standard 3" round instrument opening?

Hey Guys!

The woman whose RV-6 I'm flying likes my 396 so much that she wants to get rid of the temporary suction cup mount we've been using and replace it with a mount that would work with a standard 3" instrument opening. We're replacing an older 3" round Apollo GPS that just isn't as nice to fly with as the 396...

Have you seen any of these out there or anyone that has fabbed something up that I could look at?

THANKS GUYS!!!

Your best bet is just to purchase one of the Garmin 396-496 Mounts and stick it in the Radio Stack if there is room. That is what I am planning to do in my RV-6A once it is flying. First I have to purchase a 296 to fit it. I left room in my radio stack just so someday when I get some additional money I can put in a GPS.

Peter, it seems like it ought to be pretty straight forward to make an adapter to mount it in the round hole. Maybe even put a swivel ball or pin in there somewhere so you can twist it around.

That marine mount that was pointed out on the "other" forums might work. I tried one on my RV-4 panel a while back but found that the GPS vibrated so much I couldn't read it without dampening the vibrations with my hand.

Hey Thanks Guys!

I ended up taking some of everyone's advise and am putting in a plate behind the instrument opening with a hole pattern that fits the 196/296/396/496 yoke mount after all the adapter are taken off.

I'll post a pic when it's compete!
