I saw this on the other forum. Van's sells this same system for $935. The special started at 11:00am this morning. I called up at 11:05 and was #3.....only 10 total being sold at this price. Larry said it will work on a IO-360, but only if it is a vertical sump.
Vetterman Exhaust Group Buy.

Vetterman Exhaust Inc is offering a total of (10) exhaust system under the group buy plan. This is the standard 0-360/0320 system that fits on the RV6-6A,7-7A,8-8A and 9-9A. This exhaust system has:

* take-apart style ball joints
* 2 inch tail pipes
* Robbinswings heat muff
* mounting kit
* gasket set

This system is designed to fit all 0-360 Dynafocal mount engines and all Dynafocal mount 0-320 engines (except the H2AD). Conical mount 0-320 A or B requires special order due to intake tube arrangement. The special group buy price on these (10) systems is $775 each plus $15.00 shipping anywhere in the US.

You will save over $150 if you buy one of these ten systems.

I might jump on that if I hadn't decided to roll my own exhaust. I can't justify the better than $500 in labor for a few bends and welds. When I showed the pic. of the exhaust and the price to my dad he about had a stroke. I would probably be disowned if I spent that kind of money on exhaust.

If you haven't already, check out the Bingelis FWF book from EAA. He goes into great detail on rolling your own exhaust.

BTW, its not a GB its a sale. :sneaky: :thumbsdown:

I agree 100% Brian! This was not a group buy in the least. 10 for sale is all it is.

I've made some preliminary plans to roll my own exhaust as well. There's truly not much to an airplane exhaust system for simple, non-turbo'd engines.

:roll:

Well, I for one, bit the bullet. This is a GREAT deal. I'll gladly save $200+ anywhere I can.

BTW, I was number 7.

No question Bret! It IS a great deal on a Vetterman system...$200 off almost anything is a deal! Glad you got one!

I bit the bullet too. In fact I was #1. FWIW, I'm pretty sure Larry normally sells the same system for $800.00 so I only saved $25 from his normal price (but over $150 from Van's price). I thought about mentioning that on VAF, but didn't want to start some nasty argument. It doesn't seem like comments like that are appreciated over there.

I could be wrong about the $800 thing, but I called Larry right before LOE and that's the price I remember.

Cheerio,
Guy

I would assume that Larry would charge the same price as Vans. Anyway, I was expecting to buy the exhaust with the FF kit from Vans. I realize there is a small discount when buying the FF kit as opposed to piece meal but I doubt the discount would be this great. I am expecting to add and subtract numerous items from the FF Kit when I am ready to order.

Guy, is it true you ordered yours within 30 seconds of the buy being announced? Did you know about the impending sale?

I think you're right ACS (if you can figure out which one you need) has them from $675-$929. If he ever offers them for $550 or less, I'm in.

That is a great "sale"!

If I were planning a -360, I would jump on it!

They say the -390 is SLIGHTLY wider. About 1/4" wider, hence a different exhaust system.

Besides, I need to do more research on this before I feel ready to make a decision on a vendor for myself.

Good SALE!

Tell me about it! I was looking into the 4-1 exhaust systems, but I figured this would be the cheapest and easiest to install. I am lucky the engine I got was vertical induction so I can take advantage of it.

I spoke with Larry Vetterman for about 5 minutes about the engine I have. He said it was a great choice. He regrets putting a M1B forward facing induction in his -7A. He said his friend with the vertical sump FI is faster and gets 1"+ more MP! I have heard this before from people with vertical umps, but never from someone who had a horizontal sump and wished they went vertical!

There is no discount with the Van's FF forward Kit. In fact, the exhaust is always cheaper straight from Vetterman. (Although he doesn't advertise that for obvious reasons). I did order a FF from Van's kit becuase it's the easiest way to get all of the small stuff. Even if some of the hoses don't work out, they at least serve as props so that you can figure out what you do need. Van's was very nice about deleting the stuff I didn't want. These items were substantial, valued at approximately half of the cost of the FF kit. They included: electrical harness, oil cooler, exhaust, prop govener, and some miscellaneous items.

I probably did buy within 30 seconds. I saw the teaser earlier in the morning, and made a mental note to see what it was. I didn't expect it would be anything I needed, since the only two (non-incidental) things I haven't purchased yet were the exhaust and the oil cooler. Anyway, I was at a computer when 9:00 local rolled around and decided to take a look. Wow! An exhaust system!

I knew I needed an exhaust, knew I was going to buy it from Larry Vetterman, and knew that it cost $950 from Van's. It was an easy decision to pick up the phone and order at that point.

That's interesting, but I wonder how he did the induction air... Ram or Snorkel.

He said it was with the snorkel. I have no doubt the ram air induction would give him more MP.

I owe a BIG thank you to Mike Bullock for the "heads up" or I would have missed it. You know, since I don't hang out "over there" much anymore.

Bret-

No Problem! As soon as I read the deal and ordered up my own (sorry, I am selfish!), I posted it here. Best part is you got to participate in the deal without being overwhelmed by the commercials on the other site!
