Just want to check in that we felt the earthquake this evening! Pretty cool, my kids' first earthquake!

Glad to hear things are okay with you Scott! I just heard from Brad, and things are fine at his house too. Just a "low-medium" 5.6 he said...

I've never felt one, so I have no idea what that means, but sounds exciting!

You guys can keep them out there on the west coast.

Glad all is well.

Low-medium means Scott can feel it 45 miles away! We rarely feel any temblors in this part of California. It was really minor but the kids (and me) are excited.

Weeeee

Scott, glad to hear you are OK.

Epicenter was about 12 miles South of the house. We felt it good, real good. The house felt like it was on a bed of Jello going back and forth quickly. It was short and caused no damage or injury (here).

I say Low-Medium simply because dishes didn't rattle off the shelves or windows break. I've felt several minor ones, and the worst part about them is that once you realize it's an EQ, you don't know how bad it is going to get or how long it will last. This one had two peaks, after the first peak I thought "that wasn't so bad", but then the second wave of shaking came and my blood really started pumping. I had the baby in my arms and was headed for the door, but luckily it subsided a few seconds later.

OK, that was enough excitement for one night. :)

I dunno if I would refer to it as "cool"!

I wouldn't want the earth to move under MY feet!

 CJ

It was medium for me (only 5 miles from epicenter).
Not that strong - but it seemed to last a little longer than most.
... cat dashed around a lot and the fish tank sloshed (but didn't spill).

Wings stayed firmly on the jig!!

Way to build a jig!

CJ, that's one big reason I don't live in the SF Bay Area. Feeling them from out in the central valley is plenty exciting enough. I felt quite a few when I lived in the Bay Area and I don't miss those a bit.

My worst nightmare would be riding BART through the transbay tube when a big earthquake hit. Ugh.

For you East Coasters; BART= Bay Area Rapid Transit, transbay tube = 4 mile tunnel of hell underneath San Francisco Bay between Oakland and SF.

I was in an earthquake in of all places, southern Wisconsin. Epicenter was somewhere in Illinois as I recall. Woke up to hear and feel just a very slight vibration and saw the lamp on my nightstand dancing around a bit. Dogs were barking in the basement too. Not something you see in Wisconsin very often.

Glad everyone made it through this one with no damage.

Rivet on, gentlemen.

Regards,

Jeff, it just occurred to me. I think the last place I want to be when the big one hits, is in the dentist's chair. :)

Ha...I suppose you're right about that one Brad! Actually most people would say that it is the last place they want to be.....period!

Except in my office, of course........

Scott, I've never really been bothered by small spaces or closed in areas but your description of BART in the middle of an earthquake gives me the willies. (Sorry Will, nothing personal.) I think I would avoid BART as much as possible.
