Sexiest plane ever

Far and away, the sexiest, coolest looking plane ever built was the Hughes H1. The ill fated replica was something I really wanted to witness firsthand.

I hope the movie about Howard Hughes has some extensive flying footage! I may even go to the movie theater to see that one!

Go see that and then go rent and watch Hells Angels directed by Hughs. From what I've heard it's an impressive combo.

I saw that beauty at OSH year before last. It truly was a work of art. It had a mirror finish that made it almost impossible to spot the rivets. Really made me want to polish my RV-4.

Does anyone know what the outcome of the NTSB report is on this plane? Why did it auger in? I'm sure it was an engine failure but what cause the failure? Anyone?

Seems to me something was awry with the propeller?

I forget the details.

As far as I know, the official cause has not been released yet. I am personally aquainted with the entire crew that built that airplane. If they know anything, they are not talking about it. Jim Wright was liked and respected by the entire aviation community here. His loss was a great shock to many of us.
I was privilaged to see the "Racer" fly the day before he left to go to Oshkosh. His high speed pass over our runway won't be forgotten by me.
I also feel fortunate to live around so many highly skilled and knowledgeable airplane builders. I got to see Delmar Benjamin's Gee Bee R-2 Racer's test flights. I watched the R-2 go together from the first metal parts for the gear legs through the test flights.

Funny you should mention it, but I did get a nice box from Avery yesterday amidst all of your chastising. ;)

TOOLS??? How about avionics, insturments, radios, engine, prop. .. . .. . .. My wife finally took pity on me and just asked how much to complete the RV! Let's see, what are flowers going for no days, $30 to $40 I bet. Stop buying all those flower, which will just die anyway, pool your money and let's see, you'll need a good intercom.. Good luck!!

John, just remember all of us have either lived it, or are going through it. Actaully, even after living it it continues. There are always little goodies you want to add to the plane... Ain't life fun!!! Happy Holidays.. I wonder what Santa has for me this year?

You guys are funny. No need to pick on me about the sheela (as Snap says). Shes been telling me to build for years and frankly she was happy when I finally got off of my arse and stopped it. As for your rivet gun Snap, sure must take some stones to first pick on me and then ask for something. Thats pretty :lame:

Whats a guy to do with friends like you :headscratch:
