Greetings fellow builders. Just joined the group after lurking for several months. I finally made the decision on which plane best fit my mission and the empennage for the RV-7A was delivered last Friday. I know I have a huge learning curve so thanks in advance for your patience with questions. I have joind the local EAA chapter (at ALN) and there is a pretty good knowledge base there too.
Hope to see you all in the sky in about 4 years.

Welcome :welcome:

Glad to have you aboard. I promise you will get mad, ticked, frustrated, and even want to quit. I also promise that if you stick with it through the problems you will feel tremendous satisfaction at solving those problems and making accomplishments. Remember, this is fun.

I don't watch much sports or TV - I'd rather be doing something more constructive.

Don, I like your style!

Gimme the controls of an airplane over the controls of the TV anyday!

No argument here Don.

As I said, this is a great group of people here. With varied interests and supportive of each other (with a touch of good natured humor thrown in on occasion.) Again...Welcome.

Don - welcome. I drive through Collinsville at least monthly going to St. Louis for visits. There are several of us 2 hours north of you in Bloomington/Normal (like Chad who wrote) if you ever need anything. I don't know if there are RV builders on the St. Louis east side at your chapter (I've heard of some on the Missouri side like Rick Galati, who writes a bit on VAF), but feel free to chime in anytime.

Carl,
There is an airport about 10 miles east of me (3K6) with a flying RV4 and 2 RV7s under construction. Also ALN is 25 miles north of me (I joined the EAA chapter) with several builders/flyers. I got a ride in a 6A there last summer.
I am 1/4 mile off I55 at Highway 159. You're welcome to stop and critique my work any time.

Don,

Do you know Curt Welge building a 7A with an Egg Sube? Flies for UPS...nice guy! I think he's a 3K6, so he may be one of the 7 builders you mentioned...

Chad,
I have emailed Curt but haven't met him yet. He has a beautiful home with a hanger on 3K6. Larry Frey is the other gent building a 7A at 3K6. He should be finishing up for first flight next summer. An RV4 had it's first flight there last summer also. You probably don't remember, but I called you last winter and was asking about Sube engines and RVs in general. At this point, I've got at least 3 years to think about an engine...
I have a cousin about 60 miles north of Bloomington on 39. I'll have to stop and visit you guys sometime when I'm passing through. And you all are welcome to stop here anytime you're passing through... I'm only a quarter mile off of I55.

Yeah, Curt has mentioned Larry before. I met Curt through my job in aircraft sales (ask him about coming to see my Aztec that vanished without me knowing...rather embarassing  ).

I do remember talking to you now that I see you are from Collinsville. Didn't remember the name, but I remember talking to someone (you) from Collinsville. Glad to see you here!

Carl and I live about five minutes apart, and you would be more than welcome to stop by anytime. As Carl said, there are another four or five of us building within minutes of each other. 8)
