Brantel, or anyone else
Can you give any update on your LED project? Pics? I'm at the crossroad at whether to roll my own LED or just stick some Nav lights in until I can revisit at a later time.

Thanks

No additional pics from me but mine look just like Chads:

Just make sure you order Cyan Led's instead of green.

I used K2 Stars on both red and green originally so I was able to mount my stars using 4-40 screws.

I am changing to cyan stars and they are not available in the K2 series so I am now having to go to the Luxeon III star which is required to be issolated. Therefore I have to glue them to the baseplate with thermal epoxy.

Here is some pics of my assembly:

Ian-

The color the Cyan LED's produce is within the tolerances of "aviation green". The green LED's don't fall into those tolerances. There was a decent discussion of this on the other forum:

Yep that thread on the other forum has tons of info about LED's, Nav light requirements etc. Good thread for info! Lots of charts and graphics showing visuals of the requirements.

They do fall within the tolerance but just inside the tolerance. I suggest cyan because they fall right in the middle of the tolerance. Legally one could argue that the green ones are OK but since there is a better match out there, use it.

I went with green originally because #1: I did not understand the color tolerances. #2 You cannot get a K2 Star in Cyan and I wanted K2's all around. Since the cost is not that great, I decided to switch out my greens for cyan Luxeon III's and all will be good and I won't ever have to argue with anyone about if they meet the spec or not.
