Wing conduit

Hi guys!
I installed the black wing conduit last night. Does anyone know how much I should leave sticking out on each end?
Here's some pics:
Here's how I did it:

Hi Smitty - I left like 2" on the tip ends and about 1 foot on the root. I bet I'll trim it later. I put a dab of proseal on each rib to keep it from rotating. Next I tied some strings to a cotton ball and sucked it through (with a shop-vac

). I taped the strings in place to pull wires through later. I also cut a hole and put in a grommet in the middle of the conduit where I needed a wire.
Have fun with your fuselage! It's a lot different than wing building. I'm within a few days of starting the "fun with longerons" phase.

Smitts,
Of course, I have different plans. I have about 10" of additional conduit extending from my wing roots. My plans are for the conduits to enter the fuse with a straight-in shot directly under the seat rib(s). I have punched a hole in the side of the fuse and the outboard seat rib to allow egress of the conduit directly into the seat pan area.
When the conduits enter the fuse, I plan on sealing the penetration (hehehehe... penetration) with silicone to prevent air flow from the outside of the plane.

Extending the conduits into the fuselage under the seat pans is one of the things I would do differently if I built again. I stopped mine even with the inboard rib and regret it to this day. There is almost no room between the wing skins and the fuselage skin, making wiring runs difficult, awful in fact

This idea of CJ's is right-on and should be followed (probably this one only

)
Good Luck!

I used cannon plugs to penetrate the fuse. That way if I ever need to remove a wing It will be easy to do.

Thanks Tom!
Occasionally I come up with a good one!
I will let ya know next year when I have the next good idea!

CJ. I already cut my conduit off at both ends. but I think I have enough sticking out on each end that I move the whole piece of conduit in towards the fuselage by leaving the outboard end of the conduit flush with the outer rib. I have to say though that Dan's cannon plug idea is intriguing as well. Dan, got any pictures or website links so I can see what you were writing about?

Me again. I move the conduit as much as I could to get it into the fuselage. This should work.
The other end:

cool

Smitty, that oughtta cut the mustid!
Willie, what, you never installed the conduit?
...or are you gonna extend it?

CJ
oh no

i installed it but never thought anymore about it. now that im getting really close your idea seems like a good one.i used slick water line tube in snap bushings. (the black thin wall stuff) i found that the corrugated stuff can be a challenge when you get to stuffing it full of wires. but either would be fine with the number of wires im running.

the guys in prison use a piece of nylon found in the waist band of underwear to cut steel

saw it this morning on discovery chanel. they braid it to make a saw and use it like a shoe shine cloth. probally takes forever but then what else have they got to do?

Smitty - mines looks exactly like yours... the difference is I didn't plan it that way, that is just how much conduit I had left sticking out! I'm glad I didn't cut it off! CJ still gets the credit since he planned ahead!

Say, the weird thing about the plans is, they pre-punch a hole in the fuse near the aileron pushrod hole that is intended to be a wire chase. They tell you to drill it out for a snap bushing.
It DOESN'T line up with their suggested wing conduit placement!
I called and told them, but ya know... deaf ears. Tom said he would mention it to somebody. My guess is that I already told more!
Soooo, when it comes to drilling that hole out, drill it to a #30 and put an AN470 4-4 in there instead.
