Site odds and ends ....

Post by Spike »

Hey guys just an end of year update on our new little part of the world. As of Christmas day we have 291 registered users and an unknown number of unregistered lurkers.. Weve grown to over 1400 posts and quite a few topics and so far I think the quality of people and resources have been out standing. Thanx for making this place so fun to hang out in.

So our question to you is how are we doing? What do you like about the board and what dont you like about the board? Its been a few weeks since Vans, AOPA, and EAA ran splashes about our site. Traffic and registrations have dropped off (as expected) but participation is still great.

I plan on continuinue to publicize the site in an effort to bring more users in to participate and add to our collective knowledge base. If you are happy with rivetbanges and feel so inclined I would love for us to be linked into your builder's sites, etc.

The last thing I'm going to be doing is coming up with buisness cards to pass out to other builders etc. to let them know who we are and where to find us. If you would like some and would actually pass them out in your respective RV communities please let me know and I'll send some out to you.

Thanx again for your participation and its been good getting to know you guys.

I just got some valuable feedback from a prospective user who commented that we have way too many forums around here and that it makes the site a bit confusing. What do you guys think? I believe that I am going to restructure the forums to make it easier to navigate and less cluttered. Ill probably make this change within the next 24 - 48 hours or so. Please comment.

Great site! Nice job with the new "Mark topics as read" command! Thanks! It didn't go unnoticed

Ummmmm, a $20 "finders fee" for referrals would be GREAT!

Send me some cards, I will pass 'em out!

Nice work buddie!

I think the site is fantastic! Excellent work, and I hope it continues to grow. I check in here several times a week....and I'm not even building yet

I hadn't thought of it before, but maybe there are a few too many forums.
Just off the top of my head how about this structure for major topics?

Workshop & Tools
Airframe construction TAPQ (Tips/Advice/Progress/Questions)
-RV3
-RV4
-RV6/6A
-etc...
Avionics & Electrical
Firewall Forward
Painting
First Flights

Just my 2 cents worth.

I can't really say there are too many forums here; seems pretty logical and well done, IMHO. I wouldn't change anything (except to ditch the "new member" tag from my I/D... I'm not that new anymore!).

Ben thats setup by post count. ;) It will change when you hit 50. Almost there buddy! Thanx for the good words.

I still think I might combine some of the forums such as the 320/360 forum with the 540 forum, and such.

I like the way it is set out. It is easy to scroll down and find the actual topic you are looking for. I don't think you could break up or condence it any more. It would change the flavour of it.

We love you Spike and Cyphergirl for doing this for us. Where were we before this? The dark ages!

Hey John, thanks for the info about post counts. I'll work on it! On a somewhat related note: another RV forum was started up at almost exactly the same time as this one (rvaero.com). Yet, while rivetbangers.com has taken off, rvaero.com gets virtually no traffic. Anyone care to speculate on what makes the difference?
If nothing else, this should tell us that Spike must be doing something right (but we already knew that!). Keep up the good work. :good job:

To be honest, I kindof agreed with the commenter's comments (ha ha). Spike and I discussed it, and as you can see, I guess he agreed with some of the changes too.

The site is very functional just the way you have it. The only problems I have had with it are my own operator error! I wouldn't change a thing.
