Just wanted to say Hi.

Post by captainron »

Some of you guys may know me from the other place as "captainron". I've been registered here for some time, but I haven't posted here before.
Since I've been banned from the other site by some overzealous MOM (Moderator On a Mission), it looks like I'll be hanging around here.
I'm building a -7, and am a pilot by trade. I've been looking for all the rules that I have to follow here to ensure that this place remains blissful Happyland, but haven't found them yet. Just trying to stay out of trouble here, so someone point me in the right direction, PLEASE! :bang:

Hey Ron...glad to see your name here! There are no written rules for this forum (if there is, I haven't seen them either), but if you have "lurked" here for a while, you know that we don't get in to pi$$ing matches here, and everyone has a helpful attitude. Spike and Patti (owners of RB) are great people, and I feel privileged to call them my friends...I think you'll enjoy it here! That's about it...

Hi Ron-

I followed what happened on the other board. Banning someone is no way to treat someone that has had over 700 posts and been a member for over two years. Welcome to Rivetbangers. I think you will find this board a lot more friendly without that many RV gods.

Enjoy it here. I know I do.

Last week I flew the T-28 from western Colorado to south Florida, following the line of weather that divided the country north to south. It took 3 days to get back, but just over Sarasota, FL, the cockpit started to fill with smoke from an electrical fire in the avionics bay below the floor. I made an emergency landing and was going to write about the experience on the other site, but after watching another thread over the weekend disappear without explanation, I decided that since it wasn't "RV related" it would be of no value and would be pulled. I'm sure another "primer" thread would be eagerly accepted, though.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm building a quick-build, slowly. Right now I'm laying out the panel and just cut the first hole for a Dynon EFIS. A Mattituck still waits patiently in its crate.

Hi Ron, and welcome. The class is based on how many posts to Rivetbangers you have accumulated.

Welcome Ron!!

I think you'll find this site to your liking.
From what I've seen, our members are supportive, mature, and encouraging.

FWIW - I've posted some really dumb things here - but have rarely been flamed in public. Instead, we tend to post positive comments publically - and critique privately. As a newbie builder - I appreciate both.

Best of luck!!

Welcome to the group Ron. The rules are pretty much as they appear in the registration page. We like to refrain from foul language, questionable content, and prefer general civility. We also have no problems with disagreement though civility must rule. If your comfy with a 12 year old reading your post, its probably ok.

We also welcome open information exchange on vendors and products, etc.

Most importantly, have fun, share information, and pull up a chair! :welcome:

Thanks, John! I think I'm going to like it here! I certainly agree with the language and civility rules. I'd certainly be comfortable with a 12 year-old
reading anything I write, I just disagree with a 12 year-old (or an adult acting like one) censoring my posts!

Welcom Ron,
I have found most my questions answered in a matter of hours, with great accuracy and knowlege of other builders that have been there and done that before.

Another benifit of this sight is builders share there mistakes and photograph everything that helps there fellow builder.

This is by far my favorite site and believe you will like it to.

Hello Ron and welcome. I also came here as a refugee from the other forums. I got tired of the RV demi-gods. Now I'm an overzealous moderator on a mission; to sell my RV so I can build a bush plane.

Then I'll probably ban myself.

Hi Scott, and thanks for the welcome. You know, on the other site, you can log-on at virtually any time of the day or night, and see a posting that has appeared within the last 5 minutes. What do you think we can do here to attract viewers and excite this audience?

I must be weird or lucky... Somehow I have managed to exist on both forums at the same time. :?

No I don't go both ways!

I must say that there are a few things I don't like about the other one (99.8% all good) but I can't think of anything I don't like about this one.....Thanks Spike!

I lurk a lot more than I ever use to on both sites - I got supremely tired of making posts and then getting "dogpiled" by everyone telling me I was going to kill myself and was being irresponsible by risking the life of a passenger in my airplane simply because I did X instead of Y.

If everyone did it the same way and conformed to the manufacturers directions, we'd all be flying spamcans. I've done enough of that, that's why I'm building my own now. I intend to build MY airplane the way I want it, not the way someone else (especially a commitee concensus) thinks it should be built. My airplane will closely resemble a 9A, but it will be my own bird.

I too have had posts disappear that were relevant and not really over the line, and I've grown weary of the head-in-the-sand attitude of the PC crowd in control over there.
