Grand Rapids Sport EFIS's arrive!!!

Today my EFIS's came in. A GRT Sport S100 and S200 in HS format. Here are some pics of each of them:
Both were damaged upon receipt! The first one is the S200 (pitot, static and ARHS) that had the DB37 and back panel severely distorted. The second one is the S100 Multi-function display. It looked great out of the box, so I made a quick harness and juiced it with 12V. I was in total disbelief when I saw the screen was busted!
A big day for nothin'! Luckily Sandy at GRT was totally on top of getting this resolved. This stuff happens, and I am not sour at all towards GRT. The shipping box did have a couple of dings in it, but nothing to the point where I thought the merchandise was busted. I hope no one takes this post as a knock on GRT or a reason not to deal with them. So far they have been an amazing company to work with! Sometimes you just get unlucky.

I had a student in the past that worked for UPS and he would tell me evry moring all the stupid stuff the other guys would do. how much stuff fell off the conveyor...they would throw, kick, try tricks with two feet to put it on the truck....

most of the people that work at these places in the loading area are kids in college. they think everything is an invitation make people laugh. as hard as they would try it was impossible to catch them...without a snitch and then the snitch is quickly discovered. the word fragile is a kick me sign..

Sorry to hear that.
Though it is good to hear that the manufacturer is going to take care of that for you.

Man what a bummer. Thats like waking up Christmas morning to play with your new toy and when you open it, it is broken and the store is closed so you have to wait to get a new one.
Looks like someone at the shipping company picked you to be their target for some vandalism.
Again, sorry man. I feel your pain.
Hope all goes well with getting replacements, dealing with shipping insurance etc.

GRT has been totally professional and quick to deal with my issues. I originally contacted them late yesterday afternoon, and early today they have sent me a pre-paid DHL shipping label to return the units (no cost to me), and they are cross shipping me replacement units. It really couldn't of been any easier. I haven't even turned on the units, and I am already very impressed with the company. I can't wait to see what I think of them once I power the suckers up!

Sorry about being the 'unlucky' one Mike, but it is good to hear how it is being handled. I am really looking forward to hear what you have to say about working units, GRT is my #1 choice at this point, but there are a few very close seconds.

I kinda like the screen like that! I mean, it's not gonna do anything for ya in an airplane, but it's got a nice artistic flow to it!
Glad they are taking care of ya Mike!

Mike,
I'm sorry to hear about this, too. What a shame to have nice equipment like that ruined by some stupid jerk. When I first saw the picture, I thought wow! That's kind of artistic! Then I read your story. It must be exciting to be at the point where you're populating your panel. Can't wait!

You know what...when I powered it up, for a split second I thought - WOW! That's a neat boot up screen! However, a solid second later it hit me what happened.
I should have all units here the end of this week or beginning of next week. Then the fun starts with panel cutouts and wiring up my own harnesses. Man the project is moving fast!

Sometimes it's better to know how a company deals with stuff like this than what functions their gizmos provide. Many other avionics vendors would not be so responsive.

Mike, I installed GRT's EIS 4000 and their Horizon I display unit when I built my 8 in 2004. I have been very happy with Sandy and the group. They have always been very helpful and are quick to answer any questions I had and, like you are finding out, stand behind their products. I am still getting new software updates for the Horizon I. I recommend them to anyone considering a glass cockpit.
Enjoy!

Because of you I have been spending some time on their site. Can anyone give me a fair comparison to the Advanced Technologies units? I am becoming somewhat interested in their advanced deck.

Spike,
I have an order in for two AFS4500 Advanced Decks. They are expected to ship by EOY with the higher speed processors (Honeywell) and include synthetic vision.
