Hello all,
I recently (10/08) started my RV-8 SB kit. I have completed the empenage and plan to order the wings and fuselage soon to aviod the 3-4% price increase eff Jan 1, 2009.
I found this site through a Google search and have enjoyed reading about others building experiences. I found the screw-up chronicals (sp) helpful in avioding some of listed mistakes. Unfortunately, I had made several mistakes before finding that thread. Good to know I'm not alone.
I hold an A&P that I earned while in college 20 years ago, but have not done much sheet metal work since. I am having the time of my life building the -8 and am very impressed with Van's and the quality of the kit. I hope to contribute to this great site. Fred Leeper RV-8

Great to see another 8 builder joining the group. :yay:

You will really like the new match hole 8 kit as well. It will save you a ton of time on the fuselage. I went slow build all the way as well so that I could spend the extra dough on prop and panel. I missed out on getting a match hole fuselage kit by about 6 months back when there was rumor of it being a reality. Still, I managed to build a pretty straight 8 on the horizontal ladder jig.

I'm getting ready to rivet the top front deck on and then start my canopy and fire-wall forward stuff. Hoping to be flying it come summer of 09.

Sounds like your already enjoying the journey too, welcome to the group.

Small world--I have a C-180 and am building a RV-8 also.

You must have really good taste in planes

I just am getting going on the QB fuselage, hoping for a productive winter.

Welcome Fred. You are right about the thread of "less than ideal outcomes", it can be very useful, you'll find the people here are very willing to post and talk about them as well, which say a lot about just how great they are. Good luck on the project.
