Hi Guys!

Yesterday I clecoed the center section to the tail section after getting the longerons in place. It's really starting to look like something.

Now I'm ready to cleco on the F-970 side skin but need to cut the hole for the side steps but I can't seem to find how big the hole needs to be. Anybody know?

bout that big

Hi Smitty - my step instruction sheet says 1.5 inches for the step tube holes. That should work for the rib holes, but you'll end up "customizing" the outer skin because of the weld.

Smitty,

Cut the hole big enough for the step tube to fit through... No larger.

Thanks Guys!

I drilled the holes this evening with an 1.5 inch bit. Here they are clecoed to the fuselage.

Are you sure your flaps will clear??? :?: :?: My fuselage was the Q build and I didn't mark and drill the holes until I fitted my wings. Hopefully Van's has better recomendation for placement of the steps then when I mounted mine. Check it before you rivet it all together because it can be changed now or even the skin replaced before you rivet it.

My skin had a prepunched hole for the flap tube center.... at least that's what I thought it was for :o

I hope that is what the prepunched hole was for also. My kit was shipped in 2001 and was an RV-6Q so things probably have improved greatly!
