Speaking of Oshkosh...

Spike mentioned buying Jim a beer at OSH in another thread; it's February and I've been thinking about Oshkosh '09 since, well, the end of OSH '08...

Do you have plans taking shape for the show this year yet? RB Dinner?

I, along with Joe, Larry, and Brad, will not be camping this year, instead have elected to stay in the dorms at UW starting Wednesday night (29th), leaving Saturday.

What's your plans?

Most definitely in!! Missing last year and you guys hurt. There will be an RB dinner though I don't know what or where yet. Will took that on himself the past few years and Ill wait to hear his interest before moving down that path again.

I hope to have a reason to purchase big hardware this year, like finish kit and engine. I am also going to spend serious time in the hangars shopping avionics and such. Its nice to know that I will be more than browsing while walking through the hangars.

Bring it!!

I will probably only go to Oshkosh if I am in the air and have my 40 hours flown off. Not looking too likely to have all of that done in time. Of course, there is always the last minute business trip possibility that got me there last year. I could really go for some PBR's at the Otter!

That PBR will kill you! Millwaukes Beast is the only option

We can do the Otter again. Whatever you guys think is cool with me.

I say we keep with the Otter, its becoming tradition. Well, unless they open a new Prime Quarter again

Yep, Otter gets my vote! Wouldn't be the same without it!

Selfishly...I'll put my vote in for Wed, Thurs, or Friday night...

I don't suppose Van's has made their get together plans yet. Should try not to do the Otter on the same night. Don't they usually have the banquet on Thursday night?

Not camping Chad???? You guys going soft on us or something? :)

I've gotta start training to handle that "queen" sized prime rib!

People go to the Van's banquet??? :P I agree...shouldn't be on the same night.

Just trying something different this year...none of us are campers...'cept Larry, he's a real man and can handle it. I don't mind it for that one week, but if I can have a roof, I'll take it... 8)

Lost my hotel in Appleton I had for the last ten years to a sponsor deal so I'm not sure if I have a plan but I'd like to go.

Otter for sure!

What's the deal with the dorms? In OSH?

I can be the fountain if Spike buys that drink 8)

The dorms at UW are open for nightly rental during the show. They are not air conditioned, but you have a bed, real showers, and a solid roof over your head. We're trying it out this year to see if it's better than camping. I'm not a camper, so I can say I'll probably like the arrangement better...HOWEVER, I am not going to like be off site...that's the drawback. 'Course, if you're used to being in a hotel, that's not a big deal.

Hope it's not too hot that week!

The dorms at Ripon College are also available. You wouldn't even need to come to OSH...just sit outside and watch the gaggle forming up over town!

Nice place if I may say so myself. Spent four of the best years of my life there. Just wonder if the police are still looking or me..... 8)

It's surprising, actually, how many of the "old-time" campers aren't camping anymore. Oddly, this comes the same time that the EAA announces flush toilets in the campgrounds. And now we've got wiFi there, too.

I'm not sure if these factoids are connected.

I camped on the North 40 once and my two biggest complaints were the heat and the lack of food. I felt hostage in that it was a challenge to get a decent meal each night.

I think camping with the plane would be a real difficult experience in terms of comfort. I like the campground although a lot of the fun went out of it last year because so many people didn't come to Oshkosh.

That said, I think the highlight of Oshkosh is people stopping by your campsite and visiting. I would miss that by going off-site, although i have considered renting a house on the lake.

No Camping??? what a bunch of pansies!

yeah that's right I said it.
OK here's my disclaimer: I've never been to Osh. Too broke and it's always during a time when I cannot get away from work. But I make it too NWEAA Fly-in at Arlington for the last 3 yrs and always camp. I find the after hours to be the best time for any show.

One of these days, I'll make the big show.... Chad owes me a beverage.

The Mrs. an i will be there, In our RV! (I've been wanting to say that for years). I'm still trying to decide whether to camp in showplane camping with Jane (Jane Plane is her name) or to schlep my stuff over and camp in regular camping. I really like the regular campground last time, but then I didn't have a plane.

I figure I otter be able to make dinner at the Otter.

Wow, that was a bad joke

We did get an RB house a few years ago and it went over fairly well. Anyone interested in doing something like that again?
