Hey Scott,

Have you taken delivery of that lucious little ride yet?

I'm guessing it's somewhere in Colorado at the moment. It was just shipped from the factory two days ago. I take delivery on 2/24. They are shipping me 2 - 420 lb crates. Get this, they asked how I was going to get it off the truck.

They said they normally deliver to businesses. Yeah, uh huh. Well I suppose they do. But I'm not a business! So luckily the freight company called me today and I arranged for a truck with a lift gate (yeah, that's extra) to deliver the crates to my home. I'm really hoping the driver has a pallet jack. :)

Oh well, shipping is obviously not their forte. It's still a nice little plane. I'll be sure to post some pictures when the big boxes show up.

Signed, the rivetpopper.

Scott, I f the the driver dosent have a palate jack, use two or three rollers the width of the crates and a heavy duty prybar. I moved my fuselage RV6-A(Quick build) and wing crates all over the driveway and into my garage. I used 3" galvanized pipes that I keep around for that and freezers etc. I actually moved my wing crate back to my work shop from our garage with the help of my wife. We laid some more 2"X4"X 8' for tracks to keep the rollers from sinking into the lawn. We only had two pipes and I would get one end lifted up and my wife would stick the pipe in and I could push it for about eight feet. You can also us 4" PVC drain pipe if you don't have galvanized around. Gravity most likely could ruin whats in the crates.

I was thinking of wood dowels but the pipe idea is better. If the driver can't help We'll just leave them in the drive until I get back from OSH with the pipe. No worries. It will be good to build something again.

Sorry. Orchard Supply Hardware. Don't think I can afford OSH this year so I'll just stick with OSH. :)

 Wow, was that ever incoherent!

Rough year here in the newspaper industry. It's about to get rougher. I'm praying that I can stay employed long enough to finish this little bird.

FINALLY!

I now have a Coyote in the garage. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures yet. I can't find the cable to connect the camera to the computer.

So the update is, the two crates showed up on a big truck with a lift gate. Yeah! And the driver had a pallet jack! Yeehaw!! And he didn't want to use it! Wha...??!! We manhandled the long low heavy box (about the same size you get with the RV-7 wing kit) onto the lift gate with me holding the far end while they lowered it to the ground. Then Mr Macho driver puts it on a hand truck and wheels it up the driveway and into the garage. Cool! The second box was a little more manageable even though it was bigger. It was lighter and it was a more normal shape. We got that down the lift gate much easier and up into the garage no problem.

The driver was actually pretty helpful. He thought it was cool that there were airplane parts in the boxes. Which parts were being delivered, he asked. All of them, I answered. You mean..., he started. Yep, there's an entire airplane in those two boxes, I answered. It took a little more conversation to convince him it wasn't a really big RC aircraft.

There was a small dent in one of the crates. I opened it and luckily none of the parts inside were damaged.

I spent the next 45 minutes opening the crates and ooh'ing and ah'ing over the different pieces. Then work called. "We've lost our Internet connection and the newsroom is panicking!" *Sigh* So that was all I got to do before I had to rush off to "fix the Internet."

I'll try to get the pictures transferred tomorrow. Now it's time to inventory!

Getting the kit is good news Scott, I will wait patiently for pics.

I can really relate to the call to fix things, the telco here crapped out some major links at 10pm one day last week and I was back in the office until almost sunrise the next morning getting this running on other links.

Pictures!

Image

Big box, with the long box right behind it.

Image

My A#1 helper - and the whole reason I’m building another plane. My last hurrah with my son.

Image

Passenger compartment. It’s powerder-coated chromoly steel tubing. This is looking from the front left to the rear right.

Image

This is the left gear leg socket. Mmmm… powder-coat-alicious.

Image

Fuel tank

This is the dacron covering material. Precolored. No painting necessary. The black you see isn’t a shadow, it’s one of the black stripes.

Inventory fun for everyone!

Well there's a little taste. I'll be inventorying for the next week or so. I'll post the little updates on my blog, and the big updates here.

Glad you were able to safely get it off the truck! Good luck on the building process with your son! I had to wait until Son finished college before I could afford to start flying lessons and then build an airplane! Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!
