I'm not convinced those drones are good for general airspace integration. I really have a hard time believing that the remote operator has true situational awareness regarding the drone's environment.

I guess my question is why a drone? What is the advantage over a manned aircraft doing the same mission? I can understand if they are being sent into a "hot" environment. Are the Canadians shooting down aircraft along the boarder?? Uff-Da!!

DHS reminds me of the SS. In other words, they frighten the hell out of me!

Why a drone? Why a drone that's capable of taking out multiple ground targets? To quote Han Solo, "I've got a bad feeling about this..."

It may be that they just want to do some local testing and it's no big deal. But then I'm sure our ancestors thought, "so the British want to house a few troops in Boston, no big deal."

If I were to guess, operational cost, and endurance time aloft.

Is that what it's coming down to? I guess the writing is on the wall. Give up your jet jock dreams kids. The future of combat aviation.

I guess it is nice to have someone else take over the stick while you walk down the hall to grab a cup of coffee, use the restroom, and flirt with the girl from legal. Not necessarily in that order.

North Dakota Frequent Fllier

Post by Bob Barrett »

Since I am orginally from North Dakota, I frequently fly there and with my RV-6A ready for its first flight I have plans to go there this Summer and Fall. The time has to be flown off first of course! There are several MOA areas already and it is spooky sharing the space with F-16's at low altitude but now the F-16's are gone and replaced by drones! I think it just got a lot more dangerous. I want to land at Lance F's strip and see his RV-8 but now I will have worry about the  drones!

The main TFR around here (for now, our moron senator is pushing for more MOA's) is around the GF air base, and it seems to be hot only once a week or so. It is pretty easy to work around.

Bob--is your test pilot back yet? Tell him to get back and get to work flying that thing!!! I am working on wiring mine, I had no idea how many wires it takes to wire an airplane!!
