With my avionics harness complete, I decided the best way to test it was to plug in the most expensive avionics equipment -- the garmin 430W. Needless to say, the smoke stayed in and I got GPS position eventually!
What a night!

It took a 6 pack of Natty Light and a stiff Kettle 1 vodka tonic for me to flip the switch. Even as a EE I was a little scared when it didn't turn on for about a second. Longest second of the project!

Congratulations Mike
Way to go and it looks good! When we tested mine, I all came up right away but we more or less tested each component as we hooked it up. The first thing we installed was the intercom and tested to make sure it worked right. It did, so then to the radio, transponder, nav lights, strobes, landing lights etc. and last but not least the Dynon 10A. I don't recall a once second wait but then I wasn't looking at my watch either! Again congratulations! Chad you need abouty 5 shots of everclear and then you won't be upset if you get colored smoke

Guy-
I was a little too tipsy to trust myself getting in it. But I will admit to staring at it for about 10 minutes with the RV grin on my face the whole time!

Hehehe...you all will be happy to know that I've slowly worked my way off the sweet stuff, and have found a new favorite in Land Shark. I've been hooked on that stuff for the last coupla months, and I keep my hangar fridge (and home fridge) stocked with the stuff...that's what will keep me feeling good when I light the panel up soon...Spike wrote:Does that come in mango-green-cutesy-orange?
Don't forget the wonderful aroma of Electrical Fail....the pungent odor of a blown tantalum capacitor can not be mistaken for anything else, or covered up by another scent. Hot PC boards also have their own particular unmistakable aroma.captain_john wrote: All those pretty colors of smoke... NICE!!!

Just be sure you don't "light up" yourself too much with the Sharks, or else you won't remember your panel lighting up!cjensen wrote:Hehehe...you all will be happy to know that I've slowly worked my way off the sweet stuff, and have found a new favorite in Land Shark.
