RVs at Camp Scholler (motorized that is)

We're driving a rented RV to OSH this year. It comes with a built-in generator that's pretty quiet. I know that some people bring their portable generators with their travel trailers, which are really loud. So my question is... If you have a motorized RV with a built-in generator, do you still have to camp out in the "generator allowed" zones, or can you camp anywhere you want?

From the guidelines...
There are no electric or water hook-ups on the campgrounds. Generators may be used for electricity, but no engine-driven generators will be operated between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.

There is an area out near the camp locator building where they allow 24hr generator use. No tents allowed. Usually where all the mobile Ritz Carltons are parked. Some of those rigs will just blow you away!

Gimme a popup and a cooler and I am literally a "happy camper".

If there's one thing that ruins AirVenture for me, it's the guy in the RV who gets up in the morning, starts up the generator, then goes back inside and runs the AC, keeps the windows closed and watches TV. And then it drones on until 10pm.

The good news is that it's been cool and comfortable in the upper midwest this year so maybe they'll keep the windows open, and maybe come out and hang out with the rest of us.

I know absolutely nothing about motorized RVs, so this is new stuff for me. I will make sure to shut that dude down early so everyone can sleep.

You should see some of the equipment that comes in. It's like a moon landing. The RV comes to a halt...the automatic satellite dish goes up....the living room -- motorized -- comes out of the side... Whirrrr.....etc.

You go a whole week and never actually see the people except when they grab the four wheelers to go up to the Porta Potties at the end of the road.

a couple of years ago I saw one towing a helicopter.

It's impossible to visit that area of Camp Scholler where the 24 hour generators are and NOT come to the conclusion that aviation really IS a rich people's hobby.

A couple of years ago I was at Sun 'N Fun and there was a display of motor homes for sale. I asked the sales guy what one of them cost and he replied "about $250,000". I said "that's not bad" and he replied "I love you airplane guys, you think 250K is inexpensive".

The motorized RV is costing me a chunk. When I mentioned to my wife that we ought to camp out again in the old tent this year, she said:

Oh HELL no!

yes dear... (written in really small letters - note the tail between the legs)
