Has anyone ever heard of a DAR requiring an IA signoff of an EAB aircraft before he will inspect it?
Never heard of that and my two friends have both had the same DAR inspect theirs and they said he required this?????

There is no such requirement to my knowledge. I would contact Joe Norris at the EAA regarding this.
Sounds like it may be time to start looking for another DAR..... Who knows what other "requirements" he may have that are not founded in fact.

Thanks Jeff,
looks like a friend of mine posted this question over on the VAF and Mel said the same...
This DAR is convenient so that is why the guys around here are using him.
Other than this weirdness, he seems to be OK to deal with.

I wonder if he does that to help defer any perceived liability. Or maybe he doesn't want people to waste his time by not truly being ready for the inspection? Either way I would move one. Doesn't sound that convenient to me.

The DAR I used was also my technical counselor at the beginning before he became a DAR. He had no such requirements and does things pretty much by the book. Unfortunately he lives here in MN and your location would make it difficult form him to provide the inspection. He has an RV-4 and is IFR rated but I still think the distance would be a problem.
