There I was, tooling around the yard when all of a sudden, Down goes the RPM to zero. Startled the heck out of me. Reminded me of the time I thought I was having engine trouble in the RV only to figure out it was a headset battery going TU.
Illustrated that 2-5 second pause you have when something like that happens.
PIREP to Deere owners. Check the ground wire to all the safety switches that shut the engine down when you get off the seat, for example. Mine had vibrated off. Interesting to note that it is the same push on/fast on female terminal that I used throughout my electrical system in the RV!
Was it a carbed Deere, or did it use one o' them newfangled injection setups? Did it have good ol' magnetors, or one o' them newfangled electronic ignition gizmos? Are you running mogas in it? Autoplugs?
You really gonna trust your family to that engine?

RV9A - finishing - 90% done, 90% to go http://websites.expercraft.com/airguy/
Building a 9A with too much fuel and too much engine - should drop dead any minute now.

That's how it all starts.
first you're just lurking, next thing you know you've sipped the koolaid and end up fully infected.
I hope it's not the next thing I know... I gotta pass a test in Nursing School Thursday.
Anyway I gotta get through Nursing School... then I can think about getting my pilot's licensce... Then I can start to really think aboput getting an RV...
Welcome to the club and sorry that you drank the koolaid already About 51 years ago, I was finishing college then I was going to get my Master's Degree in social work, then I was going to get my pilot's license! About 50 years ago a young lady was dared to ask me to dance and she has never taken a dare since then. We got married, had our first daughter, and the three of us headed off to graduate school 47 years ago. By the time I was finished with graduate school our second daughter was due in two months. Four years after that our son was born and with the struggles of raising and educating three children my flying lessons and airplane were all put on hold until 1992 when our son finished college. 10 days after his graduation and a fishing trip I promised him, I took my first lesson, and six years later I was able to order my kit. My wife still is convinced we need an airplane but she helped by doing the upholstry etc. Ten years later my RV-6A was signed off. The build was as much fun as the flying unfortunately I lost my medical so someone else has to fly but it is still great and five of our 8 grandchildren and two of our children have had a ride. So has my beautiful wife, but we can't fly together. It was all worth it!
Just have someone teach her to fly and then you are all set. A six week vacation to AZ or FL and she'll have a license, just in time for the start of the 2011 flying season!
When the Minnesota Vikings win the Super Bowl, Hell freezes over, water runs up hill, and they give 100LL away I might have a chance but I think we need to eliminate the Third Class Medical even for persons who the FAA has previously denied escept for chemical dependency problems. Changing the FAA's mind is easier than changing my wife's mind!
