This makes me sick to my stomach:

http://blog.runwayfinder.com/2010/12/09 ... g-offline/

Dave Parson's Runwayfinder.com is shutting down today, effective at Noon PST. Apparently FlightPrep sued Dave for a patent infringement on a shady patent to begin with. Runwayfinder has always been one of my favorite online flight tools to use.

Yeah, just read that on ANN this morning...SUCKS!! We (this nation) are going to sue ourselves out of existence. I'm starting to look for property down in the islands...no joke.

I shot off emails to every address I could find for them this morning. Apparently they are taking a bit of a hit from people today...

Hit submit instead of preview...anyway, for them to issue an open letter, I would imagine their inbox's have been flooded. Good for us! 8)

hmmm.... let's see... what does it take to make flight planning software?

Free charts downloaded from the FAA.
Free airport database downloaded from the FAA.
A web guy with some savvy with SQL Server database.
And a lawyer....

Holy friggin' moley!
Mapquest better watch out for these guys...

And runwayfinder.com is back on the air!
"RunwayFinder is back on the air! Thanks to your overwhelming support and some great communication sat down with FlightPrep and FlightPrep agreed to dismiss the lawsuit! The exact details of the settlement license are convidential. RunwayFinder doees not ask for or support any further boycott of FlightPrep, its services, products, or owners. This is a big win for RunwayFinder and the pilots who depend on its services! We're back and lawsuit free, come check out www.runwayfidner.com. Again, thanks you for all of your support."
