Just finished ONE fuel tank on my 8. It feels like a huge milestone completed. It came out clean and now it is time for pressure testing????
Keep building,

Just got done with my conditional inspection, and took 782P for a ride today. Tried out my new Drift HD Stealth video camera. Pretty cool except for the real ugly guy caught on video flying.......

I've been working on my elevators - made some good progress, but I think I just put myself back a little. I countersunk the wrong side of E-702. I emailed Van's, but haven't heard back yet. What's the consensus of opinion? Do I need a new 702?

When moving your airplane or large parts of it, don't spare expenses. Two years ago I loaded my fuselage with engine, propeller, etc on a borrowed neighbor's well worn second hand four place snowmobile trailer. I had some old 2"x6" X6 planks and borrowed one for the nose wheel. Fortunately all held together and I got it to the paint shop okay. Through no fault of mine

I go to thinking about the fact that there was probably no insurance in place during the move. When I went to get it I borrowed a trailer from Bob Leaders the FBO and owner of 8Y6. That was free also. I bought three new pressure treated 2"X8" planks and bolted some angle iron to one end of each to hook on the flatbet trailer. Eeverything went smoother and safer. The cost was only for the three new planks. Had the fuselage fallen or the ramps broke loading it who know how much it would have cost or if I would have needed a a whole new fuselage?

I was greatly releived to have safely hauled to 8Y6 where I assembled it and have been fly for two years. Today I had to bing the snow blower back from the airport and used the planks today to load that. I couldn't help but think how risky the move to the paint shop had been!

Waiting for my finish kit to show up. Van's said it would ship 4/25, but still no charge on the card...
Last night I moved stuff around in the shop and cleaned up some things.
Mostly working on my wiring plans so I can start ordering stuff.

Quiet here too. Hard to get excited about flying when it's snowing and/or blowing 30mph. As far as Aviation stuff, I've been trying to get my autopilot working. Of course that means I'm waiting on parts shipments again. Then trying to get our Race organized.
Edit: removed my race links

Last night was such a gorgeous night. I took my friend Ray for a ride after work, then for some reason, I didn't put the 7 away and left it sitting out in the evening air in front of my hangar while I piddled around with the Thatcher. As the sun began to set, I got this crazy idea that it was time to get night current again. I had never landed a TW airplane at night, but I would have to at some point.
I firewalled the throttle five minutes after the sun set, flew up north for a bit waiting for it to get dark, then came back to shoot some stop n goes. I did 8 of them to be exact, and if I can be so bold as to pat myself on the back, I did great!
I did learn that my EFIS and Garmin 295 are WAY to bright at night, and I need to figure out how to turn them down a bit, but other than that, I got nice compliments on my lights, and it was great to fly at night for the first time since 11/29/07!! WOW...time flies man...

Chad, Like you I was nervous about flying a TD at night since I had 0 experience in doing so. I was more scared to takeoff that night than I was on the 1st flight!
Turns out to be no big deal. Not sure how it would work out without a landing light though!!!
I have to turn my EFIS screens way down and the Aera is on the last stop before off at night. It is a cool experience though to be up there in the pitch black with the electronic panel all glowing and flying around in something you built in your garage.
My home built LED nav lights are working better than great. The new HID landing lights really light up the runway as well!

Me too Brian! I had more of a butterfly in my stomach feeling last night than I did on first flight. Weird!
I did get kudos on the brightness of my lights last night from the guys in the tower. They are REALLY bright, and I'm SUPER pleased with the LED lights all around.

maybe I should try my first night flight in 5 yrs tonight.
let's see RY 34 will only be 80* crosswind...so... maybe I'll stay home.
