OK you've mostly finished your RV....builder withdrawls creeps in. What are you gonna do?

new panel...new airplane...honey do's...let's hear it.

I really want to be back in the shop this winter.....SO:

1. I may build a new panel for my RV. I had a moment with my radio going to OSH, which turned out to be navigator error, but reinforced the need for a back up.
2. Also the spousal unit has spoken and looks like I need to get busy on the logcabin guest house at Cabin Creek Landing.
3. If all else fails I should start on refinishing our 1957 Mahogany Leecraft runabout.

The cabin will be a 18X24 10" fullscribe loghome with 1/2 loft. just a small getaway place we can fly to, until we retire and build a fullsized house. We hope to have it available for pilot friends to use also.

the boat project should be pretty easy. In 2002 we inherited a 1957 Leecraft Mahogany 14' runabout. It had been in dry storage since 1972. it was Kris's grandmothers. it was in fantastic shape except one small abrasion on the bottom. we repaired it, waxed it, flushed the fuel lines and entered a wood boat show that summer. Took Judges Choice award against a bunch of restored classics. we haven't had it in the water in 4 or 5yrs. Now though we want to modernize the engine and replace the old tempermental Evinrude with a 4 stroke, redo the upper surfaces and a few other things to make it more functional.


Chad's got his tailwind. who else is doing what else?

I fully intend to be a repeat offender. Dan and I are pretty hot to get a set of Breezy plans. I think we can build a breezy in 3 or 4 months and $15000.

5 month old daughter and an 16 month old business

The RV is still sitting there patiently waiting for me to get some time back.

I dont know about a repeat offender but I sure do have a hankering to own a Kitfox one day.

I have yet to finish my tv-8 I did flip the canoe the other day finally. I have so many lofty plans
Plan to retire next year to make time for dreams
Get my a&p so I can "offically" work on the XP
Build a carbon cub

If the market will go up and stay up maybe I can make that happen

Hatz Classic in the works. I really suffered from builder's withdrawal big time. The Hatz will keep me occupied for quite awhile.

oh man, Jeff, that looks like a fun project! Hatz's are super nice planes too

Been fun so far Ian. Going to start gearing up to build the top wing center section soon.

I did a big remodel project last winter, and am dying to start on something airplane related. I am trying to think of reasons why I shouldn't build a 10

Pics from the start of my Tailwind build...

The rib jig board. (Idea for the board stolen right from Jeff Orear, who stole it from someone else ) It's a 3/4" red oak plywood, with a 1/8" piece of acrylic over the plans. The jig blocks are screwed to the board around the structure...



Then I cut out a 4x4 to use as a bending jig for the top and bottom capstrip for the ribs...



The capstrip is soaked in a PVC pipe with water overnight, then put in the jig for 24 hours. I have room for 6 top and 6 bottom capstrips in the bending jig so all of those pieces should be done this weekend.

My original PVC pipe wasn't large enough to hold 12, so this pic shows just 5 on top and 4 on the bottom...

I am planning a mahogany classic runabout. Will fly to Jasper TN Sept 16 to their annual gathering.

Looking good Chad. Scary thing tho is that you are actually using some of my stollen ideas! Talk about the blind leading the blind!!

Chad doesn't know it, but he is providing me with motivation. I get down to the basement and start working on the Hatz project thinking, "I can't let that JENSEN kid get ahead of me!!"

Course Chad has an advantage. He's only building one wing.....

Looking good Chad... Wood wing building really is rewarding!

My next project will be wing stands this weekend but I don't think that quite classifies as "other projects".

Props to you both for building again. I have to think Jeff is nuts. Not so much for building from wood/scratch like that but for choosing to build a biplane. I've lost count on how many times I've said "I'm so glad this is not a biplane" in the garage the past two weeks!

I once heard a story that for YEARS someone claimed to be building an RV-7 and they were simply stealing somebody else's pictures off their website!!!

There's quite a story here if you haven't heard about it Ian. Watermarking my pics was something I did after this happened...

I know it won't stop it from happening, which is why I haven't made an effort to keep watermarking.

I've kept in touch with the kid, and he's seems to be doing well. Saw a counselor, graduated college, and wants to build an airplane...for real.
