...Has an Arr Vee in it! Not just any Arr Vee, Ken Balch's RV-8!

Ken visited Thermos and I invited myself over to say hello not long ago. He looked at Thermos' Empennage and we chatted up all things Arr Vee! He is a great guy!

Anywhooo, the pics you see there are of my home port, KPYM! We made Kitplanes magazine, thanks to Ken!

Quite a paint job on Ken's plane, huh? She's a BEAUT!

Hmm, me no longer subscribe to Kitplanes...

It is the only subscription I have left except for the ones that come with EAA and AOPA.

There is usually something "RV-ish" in it.

Somethimes it is metal planes in general and others (like this) is RV specific.

I let my subscription lapse because I became really disapointed in the thinning of the magazine over time and the content to advertisement ratio. Have they gotten any better?

Well, I have been more interested in reading it lately as I have been finding metal planes in it. There are also lots of fast plastic ones in there too. I didn't like seeing all the wooden ones, but there seems to be less of those in it.

As far as the content, it seems more relative lately... but still many advertisers.

Hey guys there is actually a new Mag out designed for high performance home built aircraft. It's called "Experimental Aircraft Technology" and I just received my second issue!

They promise NEVER to have an article on Ultralights like "Kitplanes" puts on there cover about every other month. There is even a section called "RV-Tech" on page 14 this month that looks like it might become a regular feature. It talks about low cost auto-pilots, options, and wiring tips.

Other features this month are:

99 Little Tricks That Equal 99 Mile Per Hour
Airfoil Primer, Part II
Bruce Bohannon, Setting Records in his Exxon RV-4
Building Serious HP With Engine Builder Ron Monson

I liked the first issue so much that I subscribed right away. (of course I'll buy anything that comes to my door 6 times a year with pictures of planes in it! )

Here is the website: www.extechmag.com

The editor is Brett Hahn and he is a great guy. He is anxious to hear ideas from builders and pilots alike for upcoming issues.

Check it out...

Hey Pete,

Just checked out the magazines website. Looks like a pretty good mag. They say you can get 50% off the subscription price if you order now. Is the normal price $15.95 a year or is that the discounted price?

I paid $29.95 for 2 years so that sounds like the discounted price.

As I said, I'm a sucker for anything with planes in it! :deal:

I just talked to the new mag editor, and he seems like a straight ahead guy. I signed on for two years. I used to get kitplanes, but they got the air mag disease of talking endlessly about trivia, and no content. I think that they hired some of the guys from the dufunct zines, and are now following their path to oblivion...
