Dammit. I want to go flying. I could spend 5 years building the remaining 99.5% of the -7A I started, or 3 years building the RV-12 my BIL started, or win the lottery and buy the absolutely gorgeous RV-9 I saw last weekend (price reduced to 99,000.)

However ... will someone please tell me why I shouldn't buy a 13,000 Grumman T-cat and just start flying? Yeah, it has a high time engine, but still. I'm too old to be patient much longer, and my funds are still limited.

Nope. I think you should do it. Life is short..

Build to have fun building == success.
Fly to have fun flying == success.
Build to have fun flying == failure.

I concur. I thought about doing it with a 152. I could have gotten my PPL in it and then flown it for fun when building got me down. **cough** fuel tanks **cough**

Owing the plane will certainly slow down the build, but you will have a great time flying!

OTOH, you could buy a really sweet -4 or -6 and that would be a nice happy medium. Plus it would prepare you for first flight much better!

I don't think the build could get any slower than completely stalled for 5 years, CJ. But sure, send me that link to the built and flying -6 for $13k and I'm all over it!

One thing I'm a bit concerned about is that the book published cruise for the Grumman is 117 knots, and the owner says he gets 90, solo. I know sales brochures lie, but that seems like a pretty big discrepancy.

I have a friend that had a T-Cat for a while, and while not the fastest thing around, it was a real hoot to fly! For $13k, I'd jump on it and fly!!
