There's a Cougar in my garage...

Post by cjensen »

No, not the cat (sorry CJ) and not the, ahem, pretty lady (again, sorry CJ), but a Nesmith Cougar that I happen to come across. Actually, it sort of came to me, and I made the decision to drive for 47 hours to go get it.

The story is a bit long, so I'll just say that it was in southwest Texas, and my friend Ben and I made a four day trek to pick it up!

Loading in Plainview, TX-

This is taken another four hours south of where the fuselage was picked up...where we had to go to get the wings!

Back home, lotsa hours later...

That was back on the last weekend in May. I've been working on getting the airplane uncovered and scavenging parts off of it for my Tailwind (the two airplanes are cousins in a sense), selling some parts, and will store the fuselage for a future project.

While it's not rivetbangin', it is airplane building, and the Rivetbangers site motto is "Building more than just RV's". 8)

what a road trip! looks like you can use a-lot of parts off her. Are you going with the 4place tailwind? did the engine come with the project? Its always fun inventorying everything once you get home in your own shop. Always surprises both good and bad. I traveled 30 hours for a T-craft. I wish I had a camera to take pictures of the looks I had hauling it on the trailer. You know the ones  great pics.

The four place is the Fourunner, but no, I'm building the two seater. The engine did come with the airplane, but it's already sold. If it was a 320, I would have kept it, but it's a 290.

Nice lookin' Cougar you got there Chad! Your friends must be jealous!

I have always like the high wing tube and fabric airplanes. I see me building one in the future...just don't know which variety.
