Bending conduit

Post by tshort »

All-

Sorta RV related, as it pertains to the shop.

I've hung fluorescents in the new shop, all connected by 1/2" EMT.

Am now looking to hang some ceiling fans to move the warm air down - ceilings are 10'. This requires conduit crossing over conduit.

Any good tips on making a 3 point bend to cross over a 1/2" EMT conduit? Can't find many good tips on google, as most pertain to crossing over much larger obstacles with larger conduit (which is easier with the bender, as the bends don't end up so close together).

I'm sure I can figure this out with enough tinkering, but someone with experience usually has a super easy tip that makes things easier.

Thanks
Thomas

Thomas,

It is called a three bend saddle. I think Ideal has instructions online somepace. Google those terms.

Failing that, I can callyou this weekend and talk you through it.

Let me know.

CJ-

Thanks for the offer; may take you up on it, but I'll be at the hangar doing an annual this weekend.

I found the Ideal instructions online (same bender that I have) and it all makes sense. The issue I have is making a 1" offset in 1/2" EMT - the bends are so close together that making the second and third bends screws up the first. I may need to fiddle with the angles ... will let you know if I don't get it sorted out.

Thanks!

Got it! Managed to do it without wasting any conduit ... somehow on the first try. Took a little head scratching...

The sooner I get all this done the sooner I can get back to the -8...

Thomas, Looks GREAT!!!

You need a clip within 3' of the box and every 10' thereafter.

The 1" offset can be calculated using the multiplier(s).

In reality, just give it a whirl.

If it ends up too tall or short, just re-bend it to fit by removing or adding to the bends.
