Just come over from another RV site at the invitation of Captain John.
I am building a 12 slowly, and have a Chipmunk that is slow and lovely.
About to change it for a Stampe SV-4 that is even slower.
I am a refugee from the other site as I had a question about knife sharpeners. ?Lansky, or Gatco, or big bucks for the Wicked Edge?

Knife Sharpener Question from a new member
Hey John,
I can't help you with your question on knife sharpeners....but welcome to RivetBangers! Where are you located? If you ever find yourself in the Mid-Atlantic region and want a RV-7 ride, let me know!

John,
Glad to see that you made it over here.
Not sure if the knife question will ever get answered but you WILL make lifelong friends here!
The place can be somewhat quiet from time to time but everyone bookmarks it and checks in regularly!
What kind of knives are you sharpening? Just hunting and whittling knives or kitchen equipment?
...or something else???

I've used a Lansky system for years. But really only right before hunting season, to get the angle on the blade correct. it can be a frustrating system to get a new knife profiled correctly, especially the harder steel. cheap knives can be sharpened with anything.
During the season I carry a DMT diamond coarse/fine stone in my pack. During any gutting or caping I use it often to keep a sharp edge. I usually could ge through the season without using the Langsky again.
Disclaimer: I was a elk hunting guide and took care of many animals each season. I had good knives and some cheap ones and they all got used and had a purpose.

Thanks all for the welcome, and the help with sharpener.
I have had to re-register with a slight change in my sign in name, as for some reason when I tried to change my old email address and password in the original sign in name, since then I have been locked out. So sorry for not answering Capt John.
My knife sharpening will be pocket and utility knife around home, and kitchen stuff, but I do like a sharp knife.

Here's the precision knife sharpener I've been using. I love it. It's inexpensive, too! I just get it out and screw it to the workbench whenever I need it.
