discussions concerning the desire and need of an RV based wiki. A wiki, if you
are not familiar, is basically a web page that anyone is allowed to edit and
change. The idea being to create a data source that allows people with knowledge
of all different aspects of a certain topic to contribute and advance the
knowledge and information found at the wiki. Over time the wiki can grow to be a
very powerful source of information covering all aspects of some topic.
A few of us, headed up by Dwight Frye, have been discussing the implementation
of an RV centric wiki that could be contributed by the vast number of builders.
This has potentially huge positive implications for the RV community. Where a
site like rivetbangers.com allows you to discuss and ask questions concerning a
topic, the wiki can be used to store the boiled down and derived information
that stems from such conversations. Think of a global scaled FAQ where anyone
that would like to share an idea or a technique can contribute.
Dwight has put together a beta site, located at www.rvwiki.org and would like
some help from our users in starting the site out by adding some content and
checking out what is already there. I am sure that he will posting some more
information here about how to do it, what kinds of articles or information is
good to start out, etc. Even if you are not inclined to add something at this
point, please take a look and let us know what you think.
I personally hope that this takes off. I see it as a great compliment to
rivetbangers. If all goes well we have some cool functionality in mind to help
link the static knowledge base of a site like his to the dynamics of a site like
this. Check it out and make use of it!!
