well, I attempted to correct and clarify some hoses I have been using for 10 years. added a dedicated steel rod to support the spark plugs leads. you really don't want to support items from hoses. the long thin rod should act like a spring, similar to the hose. cleaned the firewall, it really shines. this setup is about as simple as it gets.

beginning to test some methods for cutting and assembling a PTFE hose. all certified components by Aeroquip, except for the fire sleeve banding.

OK, I made the first hose in my life. all certified components. hopefully, it doesn't fall apart. I made it slightly shorter than the original VA-133 hose for optimum fit for my aircraft. the instructions were very easy to follow. they were right, after the hose is cut at both ends, you will notice that one end braid opens and the opposite end closes. makes it easy to slide the sockets on the hose. install sockets skirt-to-skirt.

setting up for 1000 psi pressure test. I needed to travel to the local store to buy 1 fitting for the pressure test rig.

installation toque Aeroquip Super Gem Steel Fittings (STEEL on STEEL)
note: this is hose installation torque, NOT hose build torque, no torque values are used for hose build but rather a 1/32-inch clearance value.

pressure tested a -4 hose. leak down was 50 psi in 30 minutes, but I didn't see any leaks at the hose. the only leaks I had were the garden hose water supply. the outlet ball valve is a cheap valve from China rated at 1000 psi max. I suspect it has a very slow leak. I'll probably go to a hydraulics store and get a better valve.

the test was easy, open the valve and let the water purge. close the outlet valve and 4 pumps to pressurize, then close the pump valve.
