runway resurface - probably three layers

they appear to be resurfacing the runway in three layers with some kind of tar adhesive in between, a runway sandwich. chemical analysis of the asphalt is required for each pass. I suppose they are getting it ready for my new nose wheel tire. :)

no, not three layers, only two layers. the first layer was a leveling coat about 1-inch, then a bonding tar spray, then a 2-inch thick topcoat. looks like a tar rich asphalt. getting closer.

after 8 weeks down, it feels good to get airborne again. I don't know if I was the first to use the new runway, but I might have been. it was very smooth. the runway will go down again in August for grooving (for the jets) and final paint. the runway is 5500 x 100 ft. I'll get a picture when it is finished. I did a short flight with a touch and go at a neighboring airport and returned. I pulled the top cowl and inspected all my new homemade hoses. they look good. I used a fan to help cool the engine. I really like the spark plug lead support. it's free to move but finds its home in the middle. there is very little strain on the leads. 10-year baffle material going strong.
