Two days from paint

Post by svanarts »

Well the time has actually come. The day after tomorrow I launch for Yerington, NV. I'll take a before picture of the plane and then post an after picture when it's all done. I'll also do a trip report and try to take some pictures of the flight over and the paint shop just in case anyone is interested in that sort of thing. Crossing the Sierras is not hard but it is not completely safe either; wish me luck, pray, or whatever you feel comfortable with! :)

Have a good trip Scott, you'll get even more people asking about it after the paint job I'm sure. Nothing like a cool looking airplane to draw attention on the ramp.

Two days from paint - NOT!

I should really check the weather before I post things here.

The problem is we have some weather moving in this weekend over the Sierras. I'm going to push this back to midweek sometime next week. Same drill, I'll post trip pictures when I get back.

Just got a call from Matthews Aviation that they are done painting the RV-4. Not much I can do about it this week because the family and I are camping in Zion National Park in Utah. As I type this I am watching the last of the sun's light on the peaks of the canyon.

He got it done a lot sooner than I thought he would. I'll let you all know when I pick it up.

That was the view sitting in front of my camper. Here's a link to the raw pictures if anyone is interested.

Was a nice week with the family. Something I promised them after spending so many weeks getting the airplane ready for paint. :)

I feel like a little boy when i see pics like this. it makes me want to camp, hike , 4 wheel and many other things. i do miss the west

It was cool just driving there. Saw scenery from just about every cowboy movie I saw as a kid.

If you can make the Grand Canyon you can make Zion. It's only two hours away or so. Make a day trip out of it. That's what we did for Bryce.

There is newly finished RV-8 that is going to the same paint shop in early June. My same buddy is going to fly me over in his RV-6A, the RV-8 will chase us. RV-8 guy will take his plane apart, then they will help me put my plane together, RV-8 guy rides back in my buddy's RV-6A and then I fly chase back. Clear as mud?

Bottom line, RV-4 pics of White Lightnin' soon.
