I have a guy at my local EAA chapter thatis restoring an Ercoupe and swears by those rivet removal tools. He says that it gets you to the center of a 470 rivet every time.

I have one - from yardstore.com
It is great for button head rivets ... works perfectly.
It is basically a c'sink stop with a fitting that goes around the head of the rivet and then an appropriately sized drill.

Of course, I never have to use it!

Is it of any help to remove blind rivets to keep them from spinning?
Or for accurate centering when removing a flush rivet?

Not that I know of. They are best for 470 rivets.

I thought I might use it for the blind rivets that held the baggage compartment floor in on my QB ... but they came out really easily with just a drill bit in the center (the hole in the middle where the mandrel pulls out really helps center the drill). Of course, those were soft rivets, not steel / structural blind rivets...
