More non-annual maintenance

Post by bruceh »

Another blog posting. This time more than one issue at a time. Hoping to be back in the air this weekend, since my autopilot servo should be back from Dynon tomorrow.

All back together last weekend after a marathon session reinstalling the autopilot servo. It was easier to install the first time when the wing skins were still off. I got back a "remanufactured" servo, so I have no idea why the original one just completely locked up. I'll probably never know. Getting the servo back online took a bit of button pushing to calibrate it.

The new ADS-B box has a completely different footprint than the old one, which was significantly larger. I had to pull off the baggage bulkhead covers and get wedged back in the baggage compartment to drill out the pop rivets on the mounting plate (Van's has an ELT bracket that fits between the stringers on the side of the fuselage that I used to mount the ADS-B module). Once that was done, I moved the 4 nutplates to new locations and popped it back in place. It had been a while since I smooshed a rivet. More button pushing to set the serial line to the SV-ADSB-472 module and all seems well with the new unit.

I got the cowling all back on and did a thorough preflight, then took her around the pattern several times to make sure the engine was happy again. It started right up and ran great.

Sunday we flew up to Chino to have breakfast at Flo's Cafe. The plane is back flying again after a month off!
