the fuel restrictor fitting was placed in-line as the sole feed to the carb. this would fill the carb bowl enough for the engine to run at low power fine but not at high power very long. the fuel in the bowl would just be enough to get the aircraft airborne, then quit, and that's what it did resulting in serious injury.
here's a thought, after fuel line alteration or maintenance, run the engine at full power for a couple minutes on the ground to verify the engine will operate properly.
