Years ago, Bill Duffy recommended rudder centering springs, and he was right—I really do like them. After 11 years, one of the springs popped off, probably because my simple spring hook method reached its limit. I bought two new springs and improved the connection with a full loop at the lower and a dog leg at the top. I also think rudder springs offer a side benefit: they keep tension on the cables and prevent wear from fluttering. After 11 years, there’s still no play between the rudder cable, rudder horn, and bolt.
