clearing fuel sump debris

Post by A2022 »

I had a leaking fuel sump. in working to clear it I drained a quart of fuel, pumping up and down and then in a circular motion. pumping up and down did not work but a circular motion did. these fuel sumps and O-rings are original and 11 years old. I also noticed I have a crack on the fuel drain fairing. this was the first part I printed in 2017, so it is 7 years old. it is made from ABS material that doesn't hold up well to fuel. the current material I use for these is fuel inert, so I hope to get more life from them. the new material has been on the left-hand side for 2 years.

so, if you have a stubborn fuel sump, you may try a circular motion to clear it.

always sump the tanks after refueling to get debris before it gets any further into the fuel system. when you find an FBO that has excellent fuel practices, use them as often as possible.
