Today Tom Olson from Cedar Rapids stopped by to look over my work at my request. This is his second trip out and I just wanted to have him take a look before I put the bottom wing skins on. The only comment he wrote on the sheet was "excellent workmanship." That pretty much made my day! Thanks Tom if you read this.
After he left I started riveting on the bottom skins. Does anyone else have permanent dents in their finger tips from checking rivets you can't see. It is actually going quite well so far and easier than I thought it would be.
Yesterday I started on the firewall and got it all cleoed together. I think the fuselage will be fun to work on. Gotta get these wings wrapped up so I can get going on it!

Tip: I am prosealing the firewall together to keep oil from penetrating the seams. Backriveting DID NOT prove to be the best method! The rivets seemed to wiggle around in the dimples and I abandoned the technique. I ended up hammering them the old fasioned way.
Tell me how you make out!
Have fun!

It's all over but the flying! 800+ hours in only 3 years!

Congrats John! I know exactly how you feel here! My fingers are ALL sore today from my riveting session last night! Kinda neat how you get to a point where you know they are set correctly by feeling them, and using your finger as a measure.
CJ, thanks for the tip. I hadn't thought about prosealing the rivets. I was just going to proseal the inset piece to seal it up good. Guess I should consider doing the rivets too.
Chad, my fingers were sore this AM but got a break today as I am at a point where it would be a lot easier to have some help and so am waiting until a friend can stop over and run the gun.
Spike, just keep at it you'll get there.
Will, Don and Peter, thanks.
When I first started I talked with Tom about building and he had some good suggestions. The main one I keep using is to just take your time and if you run into something that your not sure about, research it. That's where all of you come in! The resource here is great help in researching those things that come up and cause questions. Thanks for all the post!

way to go. I so far have both flaps done, both ailerons done, and getting ready to put the skins on the top of the left wing. Hummm... I guess I better get the order in for the fuse, ya baby.
