I've gone and done it!!!

Post by Snap »

Hi all,
Just thought I would let you all know that I was at work today putting the Vans Tool box together. Had alot of fun. Finished it, stood back and admired it like the plans said to. I cleaned up the mess I made, walked up to the office, pulled out a pen and filled in my order and...............................ORDERED MY EMP!!!! :o 8) :)

I am on my way so expect alot of questions flying your way. I am excited again. :good job:

I remember the "what have I gotten myself into" feeling as I hit the send button on the fax... :o

2 years later - It's still one of the best decisions of my life!

Snap,

Congrats on a good decision.

Now you have to update your signature and tell us which one you ordered.

Congrats Snap! It took me months after getting my preview plans before I made the 'order', mostly because I needed that time to get tools, do the practice kits, and find a few square feet in my garage to actually work in.

Has Vans told you how they are going to ship to you and how much. I got quite a shock when I found out they were going to ship FedEx air and not ground (because I thought it was 3 times the cost), so I phoned Vans and found out the difference is very little because Vans gets such a good deal from FedEx. I was simply going by the costs from their web site, which are not what Vans charges.

Congratulations Snap! Once you get started on the plane you will enjoy it, hate it, love it, be frustrated at it, but most of all very glad you decided to do it. Welcome to the club!

I spoke to Vans awhile ago about shipping and it really isnt that much. I think the most expensive thing was the Finishing kit which is about $1100 US to send here Air Frieght. The rest are lower cost but around the $700-900 mark. I can handle that as I will not be getting it all at the same time. By size, the Emp is the most expensive at $600 but.......it all seems to get here in just on 5 working days. So with this logic, my Emp will be hereon Friday 27th Oct.

RV-7A HERE I COME :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

The drill is the new 1412 with the keyless chuck. I do have to tell you about the rivet gun I was using at work.

(sets scene) Hanger at work, weekend, all alone.
So there I was working on the Vans tool box. I didn't have my own rivet guns as I hadn't ordered it yet. Work has a 4x and I thought, I can use that if I need to. Just have to be carefull. Well, most of the kit you can do with the hand squeezer but there a 6 rivets (3 a side) that you need to buck. Out comes the gun. Pressure set low, Sets 5 rivets. 'hey this is going great' Last rivet, alittle to much trigger and BBBRRRRRrrrRppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp. Oh %$^*!!!!!!!!!! Snap stands back and starts laughing his head off at the little squashed thing that used to be called a rivet.

Thinks to self 'Self, you need to get a smaller gun!'
Drilled it out and all is good.
