Fuselage F706 bulkhead trim cable and wiring holes

Post by JohnR »

I need a little input here. I am working on the F706 bulkhead which is behind the cargo area on the 7. On drawing 20 in detail A it shows that you can put a 5/8 holw in the bulkhead for the trim cable and one on the opposite side for wiring if needed. I put both in as I figured that extra access through that area would not hurt.

Now I am a little farther along and on drawing 26 they show no 5/8 holes in the detail at all, nor are they mentioned. For these holes from drawing 20 to be of any use I need to remove the material from the F730 stiffener plate also. My thought is that this is okay and I should proceed but I could use a little input to make me feel warm and fuzzy about it.

CJ, have you done this already?

Yup, uh huuuuh...

Okay, I did drill the hole in the passenger side (right) but not on the left as I will be having electric trim. I hear that some people still shoot the second hole, but it collides with the rib. Soooo, I chose to only shoot the one.

Anywhooo, YES... you DO have to drill the 730 sheet as well!

ALSO, when it comes time to drill the stiffener angles for the 728 and 729, clamp the whole shootin match together with ONLY one hole predrilled... the one on the "C" angle (you know, the short one). Once everying is clamped in place and aligned, start drillin!

Watch out the bit doesn't wander when you are drillin the bellcrank bolt hole through the angle!!!

That is the one place I felt as though I couldah dun bettah...

 Does this help?

Thanks CJ. Yeah, that heps. I figured you had already been here - done that. I already drilled the angles and did it just as you said. I'm happy with them.

Thanks for the quick response!

Anytime!

Next week, LONGERON BENDING!!!

I must say, after storing these things for a year I am somewhat intimidated about bending them incorrectly!

Hey John, is it just me or do the holes for those baggage ribs seem AWFUL CLOSE to the 728 & 729's.

How are we gonna get a baggage rib in there with edge distance?

:?

I am gettin' tired, but this seems like it is worth addresssing now rather than later.

Agreed?

Looks just like mine CJ. I plan on relieving it just enough for the rivet heads to clear and it appears there will still be enough edge distance there. I don't see any other options. I've done some research on the net but haven't found anyone else's take on it yet.

No doubt about it, it sucks!

Poor QC!

Last night I was dwelling in the minutia of it all and had thoughts of the bottom skins not aligning, the canopy not closing tightly and the thrust line of the engine 26.4 degrees out of line!

I suppose this too will all work out.

Besides, we will probably drive them from the other side and buck them from this side!

Either way, relieving this area will also allow room for the bucktail to form.

That dream must have been caused by my "wicked approach to landing" flight we had yesterday :)
