elevator push rod problem

Post by Mark Browning »

Hi Guys

I came across a problem today with my elevator push rod.
When I move the control stick forward and aft the rod catches very slightly just enough to mark the primer on the F705B centre section bar.
Before taking a half round file to take 1/16th of an inch off the bar I thought I better ask :?
What do you guys think?

705B would be attached to the bulkhead 705 that runs under the seat area, yes? I checked my push rod today while at the shop and it runs free and clear all the way back to the bellcrank. In fact there is really good clearance through that area.

This is a fairly common problem as that area is not uniformly made from one plane to the next. I had pretty much the same problem. You have to file it away; you can't have any clearance issue there. I might even go more than 1/16".

I am not familar with the area in question, but is there anyway something can be shimmed to move the 1/16" over in the other direction? I would think that looking at rigging the system in the proper direction would be better than grinding away at something not planned to be ground down.

Thanks for your thoughts Guys :)

I spoke with Bruce at Vans t again today on this issue and he say's to go ahead an file down just enough to clear.
I carfully used a half round file and went down aproximatley 1/8th inch.
Polished it up with scotch brite and re primed.
With the push rod back in place i have good clearence now.
Now let me get back in the workshop
