I thought I'd bring this over here since it seems to have morphed into something different than a tool idea. I've taken these pictures of the left flap especially at the fuse area but also of the tip and aileron/flap area. The problem seems to be a small arch along the trailing edge of the flap that causes a small twist in the flap to be amplified. If anyone has any ideas as to what can be done or whether I need to do anything let me know I'd like to hear it. I'm thinking of building a new flap for replacement.
It's not shown well in the last picture but there is just a bit of a hook at the trailing edge. It's akin to the hook many builders have found, myself included, in the right elevator when they finish riveting their elevator together. I received a replacement elevator skin from Vans that was correct for that elevator. If I were to remove rivets and readjust the skin I think it may (1) cause that hook to become even more pronounced than it already is and (2) cause the rivet holes to become elongated. As I look at this flap the more unhappy I become. My feeling is that at some point, hopefully corrected by now, there was an error being caused at the time the trailing edges were being formed at the factory. It's right handedness of this type of error that brings me to that conclusion. Thanks for your input John at this point I'm not going to touch anything until Vans has a look at it. By the way I returned the elevator skin to Vans so they could see it for themselves.
