QB wings and fuslage at the same time?

Post by n701vb »

Hi,

I've got two pieces of the tail done now (H. Stablizer and V. Stablier), so I suppose it's time to start figuring out how soon I need to order the QB wings and fuslage.

I notice that most people order the QB wings and fuslage together. Do the wings really not take that much time that it's worth getting both at the same time, or is it ever worthwhile to get the wings, finish them and then order the fuslage? I realize your paying for shipping twice, but it the wings take as long as the tail, it may be worth it, especially if space is at a premimum???

If I went QB, I would order it all at the same time.

There really isn't much work left for you to do in the wings when you go QB.

Jim, what do you think?

Hi,

After checking the Van's website, they claim you can finish the QB wings in a week, so I guess I answered my own question!

Now to talk the girlfriend into parking her car outside for the next couple of years.... I might have to start looking for a hanger!

A week? :!: :!: :!: That settles it, I'm going the pink route, too. It's the only way to keep up with the real men in here.

The wings really don't take long when you go the QB route. It took me longer than it really needed and I do believe that they could be finished in a week. Maybe.

He's goin' PINK!

One week for the QB wings? Well, mebbe... if the guys are already experienced.

The ailerons and flaps are done for you. You need to make the hinges and rivet them on. You also need to do the bottom, outer skin of course. I bet installing the optional wiring conduit could be done quickly. Maybe a hunk of thin walled PVC adel clamped to the ribs would be just as good as drilling them all the way through each rib? Sure, why not?

I bet WS and I could do it in 80 man hours total.

THE PINK ROUTE!!! You're funny, HA. 8)

It would be a long week, That's why I said maybe. The secret of doing it that fast would be the order you do things in. I found that I put things together that had to be taken back off in order fit something else and then reassemble again. It got a little crazy making. I posted an order to do things (for the wings) on RB awhile ago. If you follow that order you will avoid having that problem.
When I started the fuse (also a QB) I called Van's and talked to Ken about what the best order is to finish the fuse. He said, and it looks like he was right, to start at the back floor in the baggage compartment go forward on the floor and than up around the top front to back.
