Guys, What did you use to dimple for the # 8 screw? Did you buy a dimple die at the tune of $36.00; or find another cheaper way?
I really do not want to make such a purchase for only a few holes.
Thanks
Dave
Dimple for # 8 Screw
I hear ya. I used a screw itself, but the dimple was not nearly as clean and "crisp" as one made with a dimple die, so I ended up breaking down and buying one. No regrets.
[Edit] To elaborate, I countersunk a hole into a piece of wood (hardwood might have been better), and used a screw and a mallet to make the dimple. Like I said, it worked, but, well, it looked like it was created with a screw, a countersunk piece of wood, and a mallet. :-\

Dimple for # 8 Screw
What he said. Buy it and in three weeks you'll forget it. The right tool can be the difference between a good night in the shop and a miserable two days fixing something because your didn't get the right tool.

BUY THEM!!! You will need both #6 dimple dies and some people may buy them for #4 and #10 screws as well. You will find yourself using them even after you have your airplane flying. Not real frequently but I have used them about a dozen times since first flight. I keep them in the car I drive to the airport along with half my other tools used on the airplane.
