I am about ready to drill through the skin the hole for the flap push rod.
It seems to me that the hole does not line up directly below the flap arm.
What is the solution for the misalignment?
Thanks
Dave
I need help with flap
Dave, for a starting point, hang the flap. Then lift the flap into position, as you do you can see where the linkage attachment point matches up with the fuselage. That's one end that has to fit when everything is retracted. The other end of the travel range is set by 40* down flap.
I think it took many many attempts to get everything opened up enough for clearance at all points of travel.

Bruce,
the hole that is pictured by Chad is the one that I am talking about. The Flap rod that penetrates through the skin and attaches to the flap. That hole is not lined directly below the Actuator bracket.
I can see by the pictures that were posted that it is not a straight through, but is elongated to match the flap travel.
Good that settles the question.
I looked on my of the RV7A build webs and did not see that issue brought up.
Thanks so much guys, you re really great!

The other guys did a great job showing you how it's done. I did the slow, careful, iterative work cutting the hole on the first one. It's an odd-shaped hole, as you can see.

But once the first one was done, I made a simple paper template for the other side. My reference points were the 6th and 7th rivets, counting back from the rear wing spar bracket. It saved me a ton of time on the 2nd one!

I have lots of pictures and a detailed discussion of how I did this on my log page here, including the tools I used:

I recently gave my template to a local friend building an RV-7A. I'm anxious to hear how his turns out.
