10R12 Screw

On the side of the RV7A is a screw that goes through the skin and into the gear leg.
My question, do I dimple this screw or countersink?
It seems to me to countersink through the skin(to thin) is not the way to go.
But, to dimple means that I must countersink the steel part of the gear leg.
What is the appropriate method.

Dave,

Take a look at drawing 34A. It looks like the lower longeron is in-between the skin and the gear leg fairing. The instructions seem to say to countersink the skin and the lower longeron together.

I believe that most of us are countersinking this. If I remember correctly there will be some aluminum structure between the skin and the steel gear weldement.

If the above two is what you are asking about, I just countersunk them, and the one beside it.

After the input of my Riverbanger friends, I must say that I appreciate all your comments.
It seemed to me that to countersink was not the way, because the skin is just to thin. but I see it can be done and it looks good.

I countersunk mine, too. Countersinking a thin skin is okay as long as the underlying longeron, or whatever, is thicker metal.

I countersunk the holes they turned out nice, thanks guys for the quick response.
I started today to rivet the skin on the fuselage. 220 rivets, not half way done
