Hey, -7 builders. There is a discrepancy between the B size and the D size plans.
The F-712D Elevator Stop is shown smaller on the D size plans. It shows on leg to be 13/16". Now flip to the B size (preview) plan and see it shown there as 1.25"!!!
I was working from the D's and the stop was not contacting the elevator horns AT ALL! It was striking against the last bulkhead. Bad, bad, BAD!
I really got frustrated and pissed most of the day away getting all wrapped up around the axle trying to make it work when it was just simply too small.
It clearly says 13/16" and shows a scaled image illustrating that as well. The B sized drawing shows something quite different.
That short leg didn't provide a "stop" for the elevators and the horns struck on the back bulkhead. I needed to re-manufacture the piece and yes, it was frustrating.
BUT I am over that now!!!
Just a heads up to others...

Closer examination of the drawing in your picture is needed. I learned that I needed to study the drawings more the hard way, believe me. To me, it clearly shows 1 and 3/16, NOT 13/16. There's space between the 1 and the 3. The way you're looking at it, to use that same logic, there are two measurements above that would read 19/32" from the edge to the first hole (barely over 1/2", clearly not possible) and further above that, 23/16" (not even the proper way to write one-inch and 7/16, and also not at all possible to the center of the part).
Well, I guess I'm the one who needs to be better at reading the plans. DOH!
I didn't scroll over the picture far enough to see what you were looking at! I see the discrepancy, yes. It's not the first one I've seen in the plans either. Sorry it caused you so much trouble. I never bothered looking at the preview plans once I got started, so I never noticed this one.
When comparing the preview plans with the full-size plans, are you checking that they are of the same revision level? In my case, DWG 27A is the same. Both say, "R2." And in the lower right, they list the changes made with each revision, including: "Rev 1: Zone E8: 13/16 was 1 1/4"
Whenever I study a preview plan sheet, I first make sure they are of the same revision and date as the full-size version. If they're the same rev, they should be identical in every way except size!
Both my preview plans and large plans seem to be identical for this page (DWG 27A). Both are "Rev 2", noted in the lower-right. In fact, in the lower right, it lists what they changed for each revision, and in the Rev 1 section it says, "Zone E8: 13/16 was 1 1/4."
I imagine the B and D size drawings truly are identical *IF* they are of the same revision. Van's says to always use the full scale drawings unless you have confirmed that the matching preview drawing is of the exact same revision number and date.
Shannon, good points! After reading your post, I finally decided to go out and pull my drawings out and the preview plans and check out what I have here. My preview plans are old, and show the same discrepancy that CJ first noted here. My full-size drawing 27A shows revision R1 with the corrected numbers, but still not as new as your plans with R2. This makes sense to me because I bought my preview plans a long time ago (4 or 5 years before I actually started on my project). They had apparently made the first revision during that time, before I started on the fuselage kit. And they've obviously made another one since then.
That's a very good reminder for all of us, to refer to the full-size drawings if we find a discrepancy, not the preview plans.
Yup! I WAS working from the full size (D) plans. That is where I got my dims from. I just found it odd that they spec'ed out a piece of 1" x 1 1/4" stock for the part. Why go through the effort to change the dims and not change the stock call out to 1" x 1"?
I DID need more than 13/16" for my stop in order to keep it from striking the bulkhead. Mine was more like 15/16" but that isn't much...
I am really pleased that I made this part over. I had some friends come down tonight and it passed muster.
