Mike, I'd like to run the side hinge pins for the cowling through the firewall and insert/remove them from in the cabin, like you did. I just really like the nice clean look. I'm using a Vans cowl, but it's the same process, same idea. So, I'm trying to wrap my mind around how to route the pins through the firewall to a suitable stopping point in the cabin. I searched your website for a picture or two, but if it's there I must have missed it. I did see this picture, from April 6, 2009, but it doesn't show what I'm looking for, just the knob on the end of the pin:
My question: What's between the knob and the firewall? Did you install some conduit to run the pins through? Like some 1/4" tubing, for example? If so, where and how did you secure it? A picture would be worth 1,000 words and explain it all, if you have one.
Speaking of knobs, I saw this picture of the knobs you installed on the ends of the pins. Are you still happy with these knobs? Would you use them, and this mounting method, again?
I guess what I really would appreciate more than anything, is some feedback after all the hours you now have on your plane. Are you still happy you did it this way? Would you do it again, or do anything different?
I guess that's more than a question or two. Sorry! I can't help myself. I'm at a decision point about whether to do this, or just do the caps on the forward end of the cowl, like many other builders do.
Thanks so much!
