Hey CJ-

Have you checked out this engine? The IO-390 - you may have to navigate the page a bit to find it. Looks like a heavier, low compression, higher horspower version of the 360 built on the same case.

http://www.bpaengines.com/site.html

(the site is all flash based so I can't post the specific link - look under products then IO-390-X)

Probably not so good for the -8, but might be good for you. And with higher compression (I saw somewhere that someone said these guys would do it) you'd have even more hosses in the same size package!

Yah, but it is on the OTHER side of $30 LARGE!

I ain't springing for THAT!

:o

Thanks for thinking about me, though!

I do find it appealing!

Maybe if the price comes down in the next 2 years? That'd be cool!

That Thirty Grand number was hearsay.

I just shot them an email to see what the deal is, firsthand.

I will let ya know!

I would not get a heavier engine for W&B reasons. If I was going to use a Lycomming I would get an engine builder to make a 220 hp engine out of a parallel valve (the version that is 40 pounds lighter) engine. You can get them with all of the light weight and high end goodies for less than the retail price of a new Lyc.

This guy seems to like his engine. http://www.lazy8.net/fwf.html His website is a pretty good source for information.

I ain't scared of the oil man!

Proper W&B is a major characteristic of flight and ground handling. The heavier engine aids in those characteristics and gives more performance... at least it does in my power hungry view.

I don't want an engine that is high compression, hence the IO-390. I want the reliability of a low compression, cool running engine.

Those are my reasons, anyways.

YMMV

I would personally just move stuff forward, or fill the tail with helium baloons. :P

Doh! I forgot to log in. That was me above. :bang:

That last idea of mine may not work so well if you fly at very high altitudes and the baloons are filled too full on the ground.
