I'm on the road for work - no other photos. The dents are bothering me enough that I'm inclimed to order a new skin/ribs and tear it apart. Well I got through to Vans and the suggestion was I can fill the dents - don't worry about it. I'll have another look when I get home.

But they're bugging me now, too. Those are flush head rivets. With a flush-head set I can't figure out how the area around the rivets itself would be dented. for example, my flush head swivel set (the one with the rubber guard) is 1 7/32s wide, so in theory, you wouldn't get a dent right next to the rivet as you appear to have here.

Are you using a standard mushroom set? No guard? No swivel head? I know Cleaveland, for example, use to pooh-pooh using the swivel sets with the rubber guard. But I never really understood why.

Welcome Jeff....

Did Van's actually look at those pics? After looking at them myself, I would not accept them. These are not smile's, these are dents. I fear that the rib underneath could be comprimized. I doubt the rib flanges are anywhere close to the skin in the area of the dents.

Please get us some bigger and better pictures and or keep us updated on what you end up doing.

Thanks,
Brantel (Brian Chesteen),

New skins ordered and a couple of suspect ribs. I'll be rebuilding it after the VS.

HS rebuild is done and looks great - swivel set works very well as does running the gun at 35 psi!

Ah, I was kinda thinking it was the old mushroom set. That's a nice set, in my opinion, if you're an experienced riveter. Like I said, I have 1,500 hours and while I do have the old (unguarded) mushroom set, I'm too afraid to use it.

I think the flush head swivel set is the answer to your flush head riveting needs. (the orange thing in the pix below)
