Nice work! Nice panel and I hope the wiring goes easy for you. It took me several months to get my wiring done. Actually almost a year.

Thanks,

I am an Electrical/Automation Engineer for a real job so I am kinda used to a million wires going everywhere. For me this will be the most fun of the entire build....

Bell Tailwheel fork!

Post by Brantel »

I can't even remember how long it has been since I contacted Doug Bell about his TW fork... I had totally forgotten about it. Imagine my surprise when a week ago they contacted me asking where to ship it to :?

Anyway... This was a great way to polish off the last batch of parts I purchased.

Here is a before and after shot.

This product is top notch and is very much worth the wait! Fit perfectly! 15 minute swap!

It is a freakin' awesome fork! Just the look of it is enough for it to be worth it for me, let alone the better clearance...

Panel Status

Post by Brantel »

The new baby has slowed me way down the past few months but the panel is slowly turning into the picture.

It is not a million dollar panel but it will get me there and back in way more style than a typical spam can.

Looks good.

Those flanged ribs with the lightening holes above the panel; did you hit them in a glass/abrasive media booth? Thats what it looks like to me, or is is some sort of flat aluminum colored paint?

Is this plan for the fuel system forward of the FW OK?

Post by Brantel »

I have my FF transducer mounted and plan on doing the following to connect it to the Gascollator. ( I will use two straight fittings and make a U shaped piece of tubing to connect it up, see the red line)

Anyone see any issues with this?

Image

The stock hose that Van's provides in the FWF kit seems to work perfectly with this 45° fitting.

Image

I want to connect/mount the primer solenoid on the other side of the gascollator with a steel male to male NPT fitting and a steel 1/4" to 1/8" reducing bushing.

Image

This is all comming out pretty close to my ANL and Shunt blocks but I think it will all work out OK.

I just did basically the exact same thing Brian...except my FF transducer is mounted off the battery box...

Image

I've had a couple of our mechanics look at it, and they agreed it's in a fine location.

How I ended up with the FF Transducer

Post by Brantel »

Earlier I went as far as completing the install using this method.....

Image

But the more I worried about the issues I could dream up on this version like:

1. Cracking of the solid tube over time
2. Pulling fuel through the transducer creating an opportunity to suck air through a bad seal on one of the covers
3. Vapor lock in the line
4. Pulsing of the readings when the boost pump is on

The more I thought about changing it the more I could'nt leave it!

So I decided to move it! Using lots of the tips in the various threads, I came up with this option:

Image

This option gave me an opportunity to follow most if not all of the manufacturers rules for installing this thing.

I replaced all the aluminum fittings with steel while I was at it.

I only needed one extra fuel line which I ordered from Don at Airflow Performance. He made me one up with a 45° fitting on one end and coupled with the 45° adaptor fitting in the cube, this works out great!

Thanks, I suppose it could be but I don't have a prop yet and that is about the last think I am going to purchase so the first start may be some time off....

I am going on vacation next week so the progress will come to a halt again. That is a shame because I feel like I am on a roll.

This stuff is so much fun! I am glad that for the most part my FWF install is straight Van's and that I have a standard configuration. This is making my FWF stuff fly by!

Brian-

You said a mouthful there! My FWF has drug on for months (heck, its been a year since I hung the engine) because of how non-standard my setup is.

Your progress looks great. Keep up the good work.

Sure did Spike.

I ordered the FWF plans long ago and used that to know where to put stuff so that the FWF kit would work.

I also ordered the baffle and airbox kit early on so I could have those out of the way without dumping all my money into stuff I did not need yet.

Van's was way cool in allowing me to delete stuff that I already had and they gave me full credit for the deletions.

With the exception of the aluminum fittings on the fuel lines, I am using everything they sent me so far.

I would do it again!
